The voluntary divers of Chernobyl saved the lives of millions from a thermonuclear explosion that would have been many more times destructive as the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as millions from lethal levels of radiation that would have plagued the entire human population, as well as animals and other wildlife across Europe, Asia, and a large fraction of the world.
